Hello! I’m Jacquelyn, let’s make some art together.
The Friendly Printmaker is a printmaking art blog focused on teaching and inspiring you to make relief prints! Have you ever heard that printmakers are the friendliest sort? It’s true! I have never met a more enjoyable bunch of creative people than a group of printmakers gathered in a room.
More about me
I am a visual artist, owner, and main writer of The Friendly Printmaker. I have always been a creative person. Art and creativity bring balance and joy to life. My love of creativity and craft drove me to complete a K-12 Visual Arts Degree at Eastern Washington University. After that, I worked as a middle school and high school visual art teacher. I wanted to continue to learn about teaching and completed my Master in Education in curriculum and instruction online at the American College of Education. That experience was the start of my love of virtual learning. Self-guided online classes are a wonderful way to share a skill or knowledge with people from all over the world. The internet makes the creative community more accessible to everyone. How cool is that?!
When I am not in my print studio, you will find me in the garden. I am interested in slow living and micro homesteading. I have a few city chickens and love growing some of my food in my front yard. You will notice this inspires a lot of my printmaking work. Living with the seasons and sharing my ideas in printed form ground me.
I am passionate about fostering the creative community online and in person. As a community member, I have previously served a four-year term as an Arts Commissioner for our city, and for the past six years, I have served as a co-chair of our monthly community art walk. You will find my artwork in seasonal shows in my community and online. I am a member of the West Sound Printmakers, a group of artists who like to share all things related to relief carving and printmaking.
What is The Friendly Printmaker?
Learning is a journey. If you have never made art before – you are welcome here! If you are an experienced artist, I hope I share a new technique for you to try or an idea for you to consider. The DIY projects and behind-the-scenes info you will find here on my printmaking art blog are designed to help you build a creative practice. Making art and printmaking is for everyone. You can use this medium to share your interests and make art meaningful to you and your community. Printmaking has a rich history and continues to be relevant today. There is something magical about investing your ideas and energy into something and sharing that with your community. Let’s make some art together!
